George Clooney: I'm Not Getting Married This Year -- Or Ever!

George Clooney: I'm Not Getting Married This Year -- Or Ever!

We can't think of anybody who has generated more engagement rumors than Hollywood's most eligible bachelor, George Clooney. But Clooney, 49, says that he's not cut out for marriage -- and no one, not even his father, can convince him otherwise! The actor/producer/activist, who has been dating model Elisabetta Canalis since 2009, was grilled by CNN's Piers Morgan on Friday night about possible wedding plans. For added ammunition, Piers also invited Clooney's dad onto the show: Nick Clooney, married to George's mother Nina for over half a century.

"I want you to think about that," Nick said to George, after Piers Morgan slyly asked if he was "yearning" for his son to walk down the aisle. "We've been married, Nina and I, have been married for 51 years."

"I hate to blow your whole news story," George joked, "But I was married, so I gave it a shot… (I've) proven how good I was at it."

Clooney was married to actress Talia Balsam, 51, from 1989 to 1993. Both were primarily TV actors at the time, and neither was famous (although she was arguably more successful). Balsam, who had notable roles in last year's Conviction and the new rom-com hit No Strings Attached, has been married to Mad Men actor John Slattery since 1998. Although she's happily re-married, she stated last year that Clooney will probably never be.

"You'd have to ask him that, but I doubt it," Balsam told reporters. "It doesn't look that way."

Clooney may not be following in his dad's matrimonial footsteps, but he still says his father is a role model -- for teaching him "to help look out for people that are less fortunate than you and to challenge people that are in power."

George Clooney has been involved in extensive humanitarian work in Sudan for the past few years, and consulted with President Obama about the region in January. That said, Clooney swears that he has no political aspirations.

"I think that I am best suited as an advocate for issues," said Clooney, who has been doing humanitarian work in Sudan. "And I look to people who are far smarter and far better at this than I am to lead…I've got all the attention I need, and I'm just trying to use that attention on other people."
